THE CONCEPT

Initial direction using Carrow Road as the main background, linking the visual to the host club and city.

THE FIRST DRAFT

The first draft explored the stadium direction more literally.

Feedback suggested pushing the design further — moving away from the stadium as the main visual and making the ENGLAND lettering more prominent and expressive.

THE SECOND DRAFT

The second draft pushed the stadium direction further, using a darker treatment to make the “ENGLAND” lettering stand out.

Feedback then pointed the design towards something more vibrant and expressive.

THE DIRECTION SHIFT

Moving away from the stadium approach, the design shifted into a more vibrant and expressive direction.

Referencing my previous work, the design evolved into a more pattern-led visual style — subtly integrating the canary into the pattern.

THE FINAL DESIGN

Bringing the final visual direction to the England U21 matchday programme.

The final design combines red and blue for England, with green and yellow representing Norwich City, connecting the artwork to both teams and the match location. Carrow Road, the host stadium, forms part of the visual, while a subtle canary bird references Norwich City's club identity.
